The first think is not what you might think, looking at the wine and not drinking it is the correct step. Don’t overfill your glass with wine. You need to look at the color of the wine by doing the rim test, this is done by tilting the glass to one side. Tilting the glass too far would spill the wine if the glass was too full wouldn’t it?

Next hold the glass by the stem and not the bowl. Although this may feel awkward at first, you need to remember that the purpose for this is to avoid altering the wine temperature with the warmth of your hands. Holding the glass by the bowl can also blur the glass with you fingerprints, you wouldn’t then be able to see the true color of your wine.

After looking at the color of the wine you would now swirls the wine around the upper edge of the glass. This released all the flavors and especially the wines aroma.

All the aromas and scents of the wine are released after you have swirled the wine, this is now the time to smell the wine. Put your nose right into the glass bowl and take a deep breath, a couple of good inhalations through the nose would do. The age, the quality and its origins can also be indicated by its bouquet.

Wine tasting is not about how much wine you can drink at once but about taking tiny sips and appreciating the flavors. You only need to take tiny sips to really get the full flavor of a wine, after all you are only tasting the wine.

Once the wine is in your mouth you need to role it around your tongue. There are a few things to look at when you first taste your wine What the wine tastes like is the first thing, the flavor of the wine after swirling it around your mouth is the second and the third is the taste after you have swallowed the wine.

These are the things that you need to remember when you taste wine. Think of these three things next time you are wine tasting and you are sure to enjoy your wine even more.
